I am taking a Foundation drawing class, and
our final drawing assignment is to do a chalk drawing using 2-point
perspective.
For the beginning, we were asked to draw a grid on
black paper measuring 18x24 with 48 cubes (6 on one side and 8 on the other)
measuring 3x3. There was also to be a value-scale show of the shades from
dark to light. We were given choice of which picture we wanted to
replicate from. As well as step by step directions.
I was very overwhelmed when I looked through the
directions and thought to myself, there is no way I can do this, but I could
not give up at this point. So, I proceeded to give it a try
I got all the supplies I needed and began measuring
out the squares on my black paper, then as I looked at the picture I chose, I
was overwhelmed. Where do I even
begin? There is no way I can compare an
8.5 x 11 picture to this 18 x 24 piece of black paper. I tried to follow the
sections according to the picture and that wasn’t working. So, I researched for clearer directions and
started with my 2-point perspective markings, and it all started to click to a
certain extent. I began with the outline
and filled in the added doors and windows.
I did have to redo a few parts, but in the end, I
know it’s not perfect, but I feel that I did what was expected hopefully!
I did learn that drawing takes a lot of patience although
it would be nice if it just flowed for me rather than get frustrated at
times. By learning all these different techniques
for drawing, I am finding that even if I do not make a career out of it, I can
say I learned something new that I can incorporate in my crafting abilities.
